Insignificant

Looking up into the cold night sky
The crisp fresh air, your breath gray steam
billows upward
Watching the stars hanging above
until it challenges my equilibrium
and the world begins to spin
Starring down infinity
A speck of dust on the brow of eternity
If that is all we are, how did we get this far
Not bad for an insignificant grain of sand
If there is something more do we
Look to the stars to find it
Or raise it from a book
Delve into the oceans
Or look deep inside
In that dark place we hide
Darker than the night sky
Or the greatest depths of the sea
A most frightening place to be
What if all you believe is wrong
And the walls come crashing down
questioning your faith
In everyone
In the sun
Now you're stuck wishing on a star
Looking for the answers
To questions that don't really matter
Your hands grow old and shake
There must be some mistake
When you stepped outside
It was quiet
It was quiet
Now hear the chatter
Those demanding justice
Those in desperate straights
Stepping off the edge
Where you thought there were answers
There is you and only you looking back
You've got one shot
make it count
The clock is ticking
Always ticking
Never mind the stars
Never mind the answers
Keep moving, keep moving
